Daniel Gray is an animator and director whose films have been recognised at festivals around the world. He studied Fine Art at the University of Wales Cardiff and later animation at the University of Wales, Newport, where he met Tom Brown. Their creative partnership began with their graduation film t.o.m., released in 2006, which won awards at festivals including Ottawa, Annecy and Sundance, as well as the British Animation Awards.
Their second film, teeth, was released in 2015 and featured the voice of Richard E. Grant. It screened at more than 40 festivals, won numerous awards, and has been viewed over 13 million times online. Daniel’s later short film Hide was co-produced by La Cellule Productions, CUB Animation Studio and the National Film Board of Canada, receiving further international awards and jury mentions.
Alongside his filmmaking, Daniel directs commissioned films and music videos and works as a visiting lecturer and animation workshop leader. He is currently developing several new projects, including an adaptation of the children’s book Milu’s Dog. Daniel lives in Hungary with his wife and daughters.
