Phil Mulloy’s (1948-2025) razor-black cartoons are examined as a critique of the systems that sculpt identity. From “Tinfish” (1990) to “The Christies” (2006), this talk traces how religion, class, masculinity, nationalism, and popular and consumer culture script who we can — and can’t — be. It offers a provocative reading that asks what “normal” means when roles are written for us from birth.
